Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
Description:
The Salvation Army - Panama City Corps provides immediate response to individuals and families in need without discrimination in a six county area. Services include emergency food, clothing and assistance with utility and rent payments. Counseling, case management and transitional housing are also available. The Salvation Army operates a Corps Community Center where youth services and other outreach services are provided. The Salvation Army conducts a number of traditional programs during summer and holiday seasons. The Salvation Army in Panama City provides services to families and individuals in need during times of crisis with its Emergency Disaster Services program. The Salvation Army Thrift Stores provide a resource for the Family Services Program as well as provides a low cost shopping alternative.
History:
William Booth, a former Methodist minister, formed the Christian Mission in 1865 in the slums of London. This organization became The Salvation Army in 1878 and quickly spread around the world as an evangelical denomination. Perhaps best known in this country for its social service programs, The Salvation Army has been steadfast in its goal to "meet human needs in His name without discrimination." The Salvation Army began operations in Panama City in 1938 and has been an active member of the faith community and service community since that time.
