First Call for Help offers a free and confidential information & referral service within Bay, Calhoun, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson and Washington counties. We provide information on human services to those seeking assistance. We are a public service provided by United Way of Northwest Florida.
Description:
First Call for Help serves as a central resource for those needing assistance in our 6 county area. With a simple phone call, those needing assistance are helped to clarify their problems and are linked with appropriate services available in the community. We maintain regularly updated information on services available in our area so that we are able to share the best information. Information provided may include housing options, medical services, civic clubs, adoption services, financial assistance, and much more.
History:
In the aftermath of World War II, the United States government, through the Retraining and Rehabilitation Administration of the Dept. of Labor, directed the operation of over 3,000 centers to serve as clearing houses for information, advice and referral. Our local service was established in the late 1980's.
