Hands of Hope is a volunteer organization which reaches out into the community to help people with food, clothing, job placement, volunteering, community service volunteers thru the court, High School volunteer programs, Christmas Program, Breast Cancer programs & Summer Camp Program for sexually abused children in group homes.

Description:
Hands of Hope is a non-profit 501-c3 organization that is reaching out to better our community by improving the quality of life for our neighbors.

Our community involvement is about giving to our neighbors to help improve their lifestyle while getting them through the rough times in life.

The Thrift Store (located across from Olive Garden at the Kmart building) allows us to have an income to help fund our programs.
We have designed an organization around the community. The community wants to help, they just need to know how. Our recycling store has given them the opportunity to help their neighbors in need. Our store accepts donations 7 days a week. We always are in need of furniture, clothing, household items and appliances.
Our volunteer training program has been accepted by the State of Maine thru their Aspire program in which they send volunteers to our organization and we train them and also help place them in jobs.
We also involve our local children. High School students have joined our volunteer program and they donate their time at our store year round. The High Schools have a new program that requires the Sophomores to do 20 hours of community service. We are working with the schools on this new program. It teaches the students about their community, what it is like to need assistance, and how they can help others.
We also have a Christmas program. This year the High School students also helped with a fund raiser toy drive for our organization.

Hands of Hope blessed 800 children with gifts during Christmas of 2005.
Our Christmas Program blessed over 850 children in 22 towns from Bangor to Dexter in 2006. Hands of Hope blessed over 1000 children in 2007 with over $60,000 of Christmas Gifts in our community.
We have also set up programs at local schools to help the K-8th graders with coats, hats and mittens. Teachers contact us with a list of sizes and needs and we supply at NO charge their request to assist children that come to school needing winter wear.
Our Wedding Gowns benefit Breast Cancer. We have over 1000 NEW Wedding Gowns in stock priced $99-$199 oer gown. Many of these gowns have original price tags of over $1500 a gown.

Our recycling program allows us to recycle furniture, mattresses, computers, TV's, vehicles, appliances, books, household items, clothing and much more. This directly helps our land fills. To date we have recycled over 2000 pieces of furniture, appliances & tractor trailer loads of clothing.

We have a pick up and delivery program. This program assist delivery to the needy when they are in need of a large piece of furniture or appliance. We also use this program to pick up donated items and bring them back to the store.

History:
Our organization was created in June of 2004.
We have grown rapidly and consider our agency to be a well received blessing in the community. The local community has joined us with their time and their donations. We are excited about our future and look forward to many years of helping our fellow neighbors in need.
