The mission of the Good Shepherd Food-Bank is to provide food for those at risk of hunger by soliciting surplus food and distributing it to non-profit programs throughout Maine, and in doing so to do the work of Jesus, who is The Good Shepherd.

History:
The Good Shepherd Food-Bank began in a bedroom and garage of a small home in 1981, and has grown to a 53,000 square foot warehouse. It is the only organization in the State of Maine in position to do the work of gathering and distributing millions of pounds of food annually. Over the years, it has established working relationships with the food industry and with national food donors through its affiliation with America's Second Harvest. It has relationships with local farmers who donate excess produce. Good Shepherd Food-Bank is serving over 600 food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters with food distributed to every county in Maine.
