The General Henry Knox Museum is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to maintaining Montpelier as a museum and fostering a greater understanding and appreciation of General Knox's life and times, and to providing educational, cultural and community events.

Description:
The General Henry Knox Museum offers volunteer opportunities for docents (tours guides), museum gift shop as well as many committees, such as: Collections, Education, Development, Volunteer, Hospitality, Public Relations and Publicity, Building & Grounds, Landscaping, Program and Events. We welcome all ages to come be part of a dedicated group of 20 volunteer trustees, four paid staff as well as summer interns. We look forward to hearing from you!

History:
The cornerstone of the present day Montpelier was laid in 1932. The organization has been run only by an all volunteer group throughout its history. The State of Maine turned over ownership to the "Friends" of Montpelier in 1997 and it continues to have an all-volunteer trustee board as well as those who give tours, sit on committees and help throughout the museum. Today we are embarking on an aggressive membership campaign, fundraising and educational programs to schools in Knox, Waldo & Lincoln Counties.
