UWGW Mission Statement: To improve people's lives by mobilizing the caring power of our community.

Description:
United Way funded programs are the safety net here in the Williamsburg area by focusing on:

Promoting senior independence
Building self sufficiency
Investing in children and youth
Caring for people in crisis
Improving health and wellness

United Way understands that you really want to make a difference right here in Williamsburg. Our experience tells us that the best way to help the most people is to focus on the underlying causes of the most serious problems.

It takes a whole community working together to reach our goals in these areas. So we bring together people from all across the community – from government, business, faith groups, nonprofits, and ordinary citizens. If it requires fundraising, volunteering or getting people to work together, that’s what we do. And because of this work, United Way is in a position to make real and lasting improvements in people’s lives.

You will see on our campaign brochure the statement “When was the last time you made an investment with a guaranteed result?” The bottom line is this – United Way of Greater Williamsburg recognizes that your donation (or money or time) is an investment in this community with results that can be measured -- and documented -- to bring about real and lasting change.

What matters to our United Way?
Partnerships matter
Community matters
Change matters
Results matter

And above all, improving people’s lives matter.

History:
United Way of Greater Williamsburg was found in 1949. At United Way of Greater Williamsburg our goal is to improve the quality of life for people in our community. We are doing so by focusing on Children and Youth, People in Crisis, Health & Wellness, Self Sufficiency and Senior Independence as well as other critical issues in our community. We’re convinced that directing resources and bringing together people from government, business, faith, nonprofits and citizens, will generate long-term solutions to many of the problems that our community faces.
