The mission of Girl Scouts is to build girls of courage, confidence and character to make the world a better place.
Description:
Girl Scouts is the world's preeminent organization dedicated solely to girls - all girls - where, in an accepting and nurturing environment, girls build character and skills for success in the real world. In partnership with committed adults, girls develop qualities that will serve them all their lives, such as strong values, social conscience and conviction about their own potential and self-worth. The Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast is one of many regional councils nationwide, and serves girls, ages 5-17, in southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina; over 16,000 girls in nearly 1,500 troops and groups. Membership is extended to all girls and adults who accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Over 5,000 adult volunteers provide leadership and services to girls.
History:
Founder Juliette Gordon Low organized the first group of Girl Scouts on March 12, 1912 in Savannah, Georgia. Girl Scouts of the USA was chartered by the United States Congress on March 16, 1950, and is the largest voluntary organization for girls in the world. It is part of a worldwide family of girls and adults in 145 countries through its membership in the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.
