Clients also perform community service and participate in educational programs such as Math Matters and Literature and the Arts.
History:
The Arc of Greater Williamsburg was founded 31 years ago by a group of parents looking for opportunities for their children with mental retardation and respite for their families. Through those early efforts we work to improve public education and awareness in the community of those with developmental disabilities through our programming. Individuals with mental retardation learn more slowly than others but they feel, think and hope just like everyone else. Children with mental retardation attend school and share in other activities with their non-disabled friends. At the same time, many adults with mental retardation hold responsible jobs and lead productive lives in their communities.
