Habitat for Humanity builds safe, decent and affordable homes in partnership with community partners, volunteers and low-income families.
History:
In response to the great need for safe, decent, affordable housing on the Virginia Peninsula, an ecumenical group of individuals formed Habitat for Humanity Peninsula in 1985. We started our first home in 1986 and, since then, our affiliate has completed 98 homes in your own backyard! Originally based in the home of Lorraine Austin, our current Director of Family Services, Habitat for Humanity Peninsula is now located in the John Yancey Building at 809 Main Street, Newport News.
