Krysilis began using its mission of "Empowering People to Celebrate Life!" in 1999, recognizing that what we do needs to be more that just get people through their day. Our work needs to support people in experiencing life to its fullest, the highs and the lows that life gives the rest of us daily.
Description:
Krysilis enhances the lives of the individuals it supports through personal and vocational services that foster independence. A combination of funding sources makes it possible for individuals to receive the type of services that can best enhance their unique abilities.
History:
As an organization, Krysilis began when a group of families sought an alternative to state institutions for their loved ones with intellectual and physical disabilities. A home was established in Forest City as Wee ARC in 1968 to provide those alternative services. Krysilis was incorporated in 1971 as Winnebago Handicapped Services and changed its name to North Central Human Services (NCHS) in 1978. In 1992, NCHS began expanding its services to other communities in the state of Iowa, including Belmond, Clarion, and Nevada, during the following three years. Unlimited Opportunities, a similar organization based in Clarion, Iowa, became a part of NCHS in 2003, expanding the organization's services significantly in Wright County. On July 1, 2005 NCHS officially changed its name to Krysilis, Inc.
