The North Iowa Transition Center is a private, not for profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of persons with mental illness, their families and the community.
Description:
The goal of the Transition Center is to assist individuals in becoming self-sufficient, leading useful, productive, independent lives in everyday society. NITC provides rehabilitative training and prides itself on a personal approach to community living. NITC provides home-like support for 15 individuals at the residential facility. Supported Community Living or Community Support Services are is provided for individuals who reside in their own home or apartment.
History:
The North Iowa Transition Center began serving individuals with a mental illness in 1979. NITC began providing in 1979 providing services to 4 individuals in the community. NITC now serves 15 individuals at the residential facility and approximately 80 individuals receive support in their home. NITC also provides respite services for individuals who have emergent needs that can be met outside the hospital setting.
