The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.

EMERGENCY SERVICES:
We are at the scene of disasters from house fires to devastating floods and tornadoes.
American Red Cross workers assist our men and women in the Armed Forces and their families in emergencies.
HEALTH & SAFETY
We teach lifesaving skills in Red Cross CPR, first aid, water safety and health courses.
BLOOD SERVICES
We collect units of blood yearly in local blood drives to support all the local hospitals in Southeast MO.
INTERNATIONAL SERVICES
We work with our sister Red Cross Societies around the world to help victims of natural and man-made calamities.
History:
Since 1881, people have turned to the American Red Cross for emergency services. Today, trained and dedicated volunteers, young and old, are helping their neighbors across local communities every day.
1963 Red Cross founded at Geneva, Switzerland by Henry Dunant
1881 American Red Cross founded by Clara Barton in Washington DC
1905 Although not a government agency, the American Red Cross was chartered by Congress to provide special services to members of the US Armed forces and to disaster victims.
1909 Jane Delano founded American Red Cross Nursing Corps
1910 American Red Cross first aid program began.
1914 American Red Cross water safety program established
1917 Junior Red Cross began
1917 Southeast MO Chapter of the American Red Cross chartered in Cape Girardeau, MO
1941 National Blood Donor Service established
1943 President Franklin D. Roosevelt proclaimed March as Red Cross month
1960's Blood Collections started in Southeast MO
