To provide educational & social needs to the local rural areas of Cowley County & to work to bring services to those in the rural areas who need them. To provide literacy training, job training, and other needed services along with help with life's essentials such as food. To provide referral service for those needs that we cannot meet. To assist others with setting & reaching educational goals & other important life goals.

Description:
ECCRC is a community non-profit (501-C) that has been in existance for the past 5 years. Its purpose is to provide help & hope to those who need to set & reach educational & social goals. To use job training, literacy training, & provide basic computer skills workshops to others. ECCRC has a food bank that provides food with few questions asked. ECCRC does community service projects by working to fill the needs & requests of local rural communities in Kansas. ECCRC's largest project is building a library (Lighthouse Library) for the small rural town of Dexter, KS. Many Basic Computer workshops have been provide. A complete Job Training Program is in place that includes a computer class for college credit. A "Certificate in Technology" is offered & this training has helped individuals with their job search by applying these new skills in a new job.

History:
ECCRC was established in August of 2003. It filed non-profit paperwork from the beginning. It had its review this past December & was issued its permanent 501-C rating. ECCRC has served up to 500 families with food needs per year. It has offered several educational workshops per month. It has offered youth programs such as Computer Robotics workshops & other youth & children programs. A Reading time was started for childen in a temporary library setting. ECCRC has collected over 20,000 books for the Lighthouse Library Project. All the lumber & building materials to build the library project has either been purchased or donated. ECCRC serves as an official AA site & their group holds meetings weekly. It also serves as an SRS Access site. ECCRC has for several years provided food programs such as Heartland Shares. It has sponsored Thanksgiving food box distributions for up to 100 families per holiday valued at $50.00 per box. It has also provided Christmas food boxes & toy boxes. ECCRC Published a regional (all-volunteer) newspaper (THE ADVOCATE) & later it became a regional magazine. The newspaper & magazine provided space for community service agencies free of charge. The newspaper & magazine also provided space for people who were interested in writing to develop that talent. A local school district came down to see how the newspaper was published as part of their Journalism class. ECCRC has an on-going quilting group & that group has donated quilts to others. ECCRC has in the past partnered with other agencies to provide parenting classes & other programs.
