We provide supportive housing and learning opportunities to work to end cycles of violence and neglect.
Description:
We run two life skills and computer training schools - one for adults and one for teens. We run two thrift stores, a law clinic, a computer repair shop, a daycare center and many workshops and programs. We provide housing, along with food, clothing, transportation, counseling and training, court advocacy for 165 formerly homeless, battered, neglected mothers and children, teen and elder residents as well as many services to nonresidents. We also work to educate media, courts, and community organizations of the needs of families impacted by violence. See shelter needs . b l o g spot . com .
History:
We were founded by Sandra Ramos who started the first battered women's shelter in the U S more than 30 years ago. Sandra teaches courses, including "Dynamics of Domestic Violence", at Ramapo College and at William Paterson University.
