Description:
Our life was complete. We ran a successful business, raised four children, traveled, and dedicated ourselves to several charities and organizations. Then in 1993 Mike suffered a stroke and our lives changed. Mike, the CEO of a global corporation, was a brilliant communicator. After the stroke he felt depressed and uncomfortable speaking. Well-meaning people would interrupt him as he hesitated. They would offer him words. While trying to help, unwittingly, it was more frustrating. It felt like no one really understood what it was like to have Aphasia and lose your ability to communicate. Elaine’s life changed, as well. She felt frustrated, confused, and helpless as she tried to put our changed lives back together. We sought the assistance of professionals. They were unable to recommend a place where we could go to find support from others experiencing this same loss – support that would help us to get on with our lives. Wanting to help others in the same situation, we researched Aphasia centers in the United States, Canada and England and discovered a few unique programs dedicated to people with At our Aphasia-friendly center we want to help you get on with your life.
