If you enjoy tutoring and mentoring and want to impact a young person’s life, join us at Hana Mission’s Afterschool Program! Hana Mission is a Christian-based, holistic ministry dedicated to transforming lives in our inner-city community. The goals of our afterschool program are to provide local children grades 1-5 with homework tutoring, fun activities and a safe, positive environment. We are looking for more volunteers so we can provide more personal mentoring for each child. Persons with education or childcare backgrounds are best candidates. College students can build up their resumes while helping to make a difference in a child’s life. Job details: • Tutor 2-3 kids at a time on homework and supplemental exercises to improve their weak areas. • Assist children’s participation in games, crafts or activities. • Build relationships with children and model healthy social interaction. Time commitment: 2 hours per weekday. Daily availability is preferred, but consistency is much more important for the children, even if only one specific day per week. Commitment length: Present ~ June 2008 (duration of school year). A commitment for the whole year would be ideal.
Qualifications: • Age: High school seniors and up • Patient and enjoys working with children. • Ability to tutor at grade levels 1-5, primarily English/Language Arts, Reading and Math. • Experience with tutoring or working with urban children a plus. • Willing to submit to background check and provide references.
