The Salvation Army, an international movement. It's mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
Description:
We try to meet the emergency needs of people in the community with food, clothing, shelter, utility/rent and prescription assistance, and to maximize immediate intervention. Our Transitional Housing program is a year round program designed to help families regain their independance with life skill weekly training classes, for some - substance abuse recovery programs. Holiday gifting programs of food, clothing and toys for underprivledged families. We also send numerous children to summer camp each year and participate in feeding programs year round. We do weekly visits to area nursing homes and shut-ins, and of course we provide emergency services during all major disasters.
History:
The Salvation Army began as a church for the common man in England at a time when room inside a chapel or church was reserved for the elite. The Salvation Army is a universal evangelical Christian Church whose mission to heet human needs in His name without discrimination has expanded over the years to include many kinds of helpful programs worldwide whenever and wherever there is a need.
