Our Mission Statement
At ManeGait Therapeutic Horsemanship, children and adults with disabilities will move beyond their boundaries through the healing power of the horse and the dedication of a professional, caring community.
Description:
ManeGait will be offering two service areas: Therapeutic Sports Riding and Hippotherapy which is physical therapy using the horse as part of the treatment team. Because horseback riding gently and rhythmically moves the rider’s body in a manner similar to a human gait, riders with physical disabilities often show improvement in flexibility, balance and muscle strength. In addition to riding, clients who are physically able to do so are also encouraged to learn how to saddle, groom and maintain a horse. For individuals with mental or emotional disabilities, the unique relationship formed with the horse can lead to increased confidence, patience and self-esteem.
Volunteers assist the certified instructors and licensed Physical and Occupational therapists by leading and sidewalking with the riders in the classes and hippotherapy sessions.
History:
ManeGait's target date for opening is June 2008 The school year is the busiest time of the year for lessons and ManeGait will be open full time Tuesday through Saturday during the school year to accommodate students and lessons. Specialty programs are offered in the summer.
