Founded in 1974, the David School is nestled in the majestic Appalachian mountains in the small community of David, Kentucky. As a faith based, nonprofit school, our mission is to provide a comprehensive educational program for Appalachian high school dropouts and at risk youths who have limited financial resources.

Volunteers range from retired educators to college students (at least 21 years old). Volunteer positions are as varied as the people who fill them, ranging from teaching and tutoring to administrative and maintenance. Just tell us what you can offer and we will find a place for you. Our volunteers receive comfortable housing, food, medical coverage, and a modest stipend in a communal living environment.

Make a difference in a young student's life. Visit http://www.davidschool.org for more information.

Description:
Our school serves high school students who are deficient in basic academic skills. Our students have either dropped out of school or are at risk of dropping out and are referred to us by public school personnel, social service agencies or their parents.

History:
In a region where the public school dropout rates exceeds the national rate and where more than 50 percent of the adult population are dropouts, there must be some success stories. One is The David School. Founded in 1974, The David School is a multi-faceted educational network that attempts to address some of the educational and social problems of the area.
