The primary purpose of this corporation is to foster children's national amateur sport competition by organizing and running an annual Soap Box Derby for children of ages 8 - 17 who live in the Central / Eastern area of Maine in association with and under the rules and procedures of the National All-American Soap Box Derby.
Description:
The Eastern Maine Soap Box Derby organizes and runs an annual race for area youth with the winner of each division representing EMSBD at the National Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio. It is a true community event, as we try to offer other forms of entertainment at the race. We strive to make the racing experience a memorable one for all racers, offering many trophies and prizes to the children. Our primary focus is safety and putting on a fair and competitive race, followed up with support to the families going to the National Race.
History:
The Eastern Maine Soap Box Derby was formed in 1996 after an approximate 50 year absence from the area. After racing on State St. in Brewer for 9 years, the race was moved to Buck St. in Bangor in 2005. On two occasions EMSBD was awarded on of three "Outstanding Race Cities" in the country awarded by the All- American Soap Box Derby. It stems from our focus on the children.
