To provide quality after-school programming to children and youth that instills values, integrity and self-worth through education, thus strengthening the child, the family and the community.
Description:
My Choice offers these programs and services:
1. Operate during hours when children are most
vulnerable: 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Also Open on no-school days between the hours of
7:30 AM and 6:00 PM
2. Youth participate in learning activities to
build their academic levels.
3. Youth are taught principles of character
empowering them to make the best life choices.
4. Parents are offered support through parenting
classes and training.
5. Trained and caring staff work to improve
student's growth edges and build upon strengths.
6. Youth are trained to lead, serve, and to build
positive relationships at home, school and in
their community.
7. Youth are taught about expectations, how to
handle real-life situations, planning for the
future, securing and maintaining employment,
celebrating successes, and adjusting to loss.
History:
OUR HISTORY
• 2002: Organized as “The My Choice Show” a drama troupe sharing the
message of abstinence and consequences of poor choices.
• 2003: Incorporated as a non-profit 501(c)(3) to include year-round
after-school programming.
• 2003: Opens its doors with 40 students in Summer Camp.
• 2003: Became a licensed after-school program with the Palm Beach County
Health Department.
• 2004: Received the 21st Century Community Learning Center grant in partnership
with the Department of Education and Florida Atlantic University as Fiscal
Agent for five-years.
• 2004: Partnered with JAY Outreach Ministries, Inc. to serve the Riviera Beach
Community.
• 2005: Moved to new facility at JAY Outreach Ministries, Inc. with 20 students
and within two-weeks enrollment increased to 105 students, thus creating a
waiting list.
• 2005: Partnered with M-Fuge Ministries to provide 25 volunteers from all
over the United States each summer for five-weeks of summer camp.
• 2005: Partnered with Prime Time Palm Beach County an after-school resource
agency; providing professional development training.
• 2006: Received 2007 Mini-bus from Prime Time Palm Beach County to assure
students are returned home safely.
• 2006: My Choice Youth chosen to participate in ISH Institute Residency an
international ensemble from Amsterdam, Holland. Students displayed
artistic creations on the Main Stage at the Kravis Center for the Performing
Arts.
• 2006: Partnered with the North Palm Beach Kiwanis Club to build a playground
(November 2006).
• 2006: Of the 80 students served, 50% maintained GPA while 38% increased by
at least one level in FCAT scores for the 2005-2006 school term.
• 2006: Chosen to participate in a Robotics Club through Children’s Technology
Workshop an official LEGO League.
