Extended Hands Community Outreach, Inc. strives to help individuals achieve a life of self-sufficiency and improve their quality of life by providing tangible services to empower them to excel.
Description:
Since increased literacy has such an exponential effect that leads to better jobs and often eliminates or vastly reduces other problems, our primary focus is on developing and improving literacy. EHCO formed last year primarily as a response to the horrifically low levels of literacy of both children and adults in many areas of Palm Beach County.
Since EHCO conception other programs have been implemented such as a Community Service Project called "The Hands Of Love Feeding Program." On Tuesdays from 12 p.m. until 1:00 p.m., individuals in the Pleasant City Community and surrounding areas are able to receive a hot meal for lunch. Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., families are able to receive a package of nonperishable items that are issued to supplement household grocery supply. In addition, a third program has begun under Economic Development, a Youth Entrepreneurship program for youth from ages 13 through 18. This program teaches them about the foundation of starting their on business, how to become financially responsible and stable, learning the basics on importing and exporting, and learning the results of profits and loss. The youth use the Virtual Trade Link computer software to interact with weekly lessons.
The Senior Workforce Program works with Green Thumb Experience Work to help employ and train individuals 55 years and older to re-enter the workforce.
History:
Extended Hands Community Outreach was organized as of October 1, 2002 as a not-for-profit organization. The organization provides tangible services such as literacy programs, food distribution, job training and job placement to empower the community to excel.
Future programs consists of after-school care, counseling, substance abuse awareness and prevention.
The majority of our participants live at or below the federal poverty level. Our population is mostly African Americans who suffer from low levels of literacy and total illiteracy.
