The mission of the American Red Cross of Northwest Indiana is to prevent, prepare for, and provide relief for local emergencies and disasters.
Description:
In 2006, the American Red Cross of Northwest Indiana: provided disaster relief services to over 2,000 individuals and their families; trained over 16,000 people, including 578 area lifeguards; provided emergency communications and other services to 700 local military families; held 278 mobile blood drives that collected over 10,000 units of blood for distribution to local hospitals. In addition, we provided 24 disaster relief operations for local first responders.
History:
First chartered on April 5, 1917, the American Red Cross of Northwest Indiana has been serving the people, businesses, and communities of Northwest Indiana for over 90 years. The Red Cross responds to both major and smaller disasters within Northwest Indiana, including floods, fires, winter storms, industrial accidents, aviation disasters, and other emergencies. The American Red Cross of Northwest Indiana responds to an average of three (3) fires per week.
