"HONORING THE DIGNITY OF LIFE BY SERVING AS A COMPASSIONATE COMMUNITY"
The Franciscan Sisters of Chicago value:

  • Respect--Seeing the face of God reflected in those we serve.
  • Service--Responding to the needs of others before our own.
  • Dedication--Passionately fulfilling this call entrusted to us.
  • Stewardship--Responsibly using our resources; aware that all creation is a gift.
  • Joy--Giving from your heart.
  • Description:
St. Anthony Hospice is committed to providing service to individuals and families in every diagnostic group, age, and socio-economic category and of every race, creed, and nationality. Patient care is provided through a coordinated program of home and inpatient care, that provides palliative and supportive medical care, health and counseling services to the terminally ill and their families, through an interdisciplinary team of professionals and volunteers. The program provides care to meet the physical, psychological, social, spiritual and other special needs experienced during the final stages of illness, dying and bereavement. St. Anthony Hospice of Crown Point provides service to Lake, Porter, Jasper, & Newton counties in Indiana.

    History:
Franciscan Communities has become a leader in providing health services through their forward-thinking and innovative vision. This vision stems from a mission dating back to 1894, when Mother Mary Theresa Dudzik established the founding order of the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago and opened the first Catholic nursing home in Chicago. The St. Anthony Hospice Volunteer Program is coordinated by our Volunteer Coordinator, who is responsible to provide the volunteer with an assignment and care plan, which is developed to meet the needs of our patients, families, and caregivers and to meet the needs of our volunteers through flexible scheduling, orientation, and education.

    Overall Experience    Experience rating
It has been a very gratifying and educational experience.
St. Anthony Hospice has very dedicated and compassionate staff and volunteers. Everyone is very considerate of the the patients' welfare as well as their families. I volunteer in order to try to make a difference in the lives of the dying and their families. Most of the hospice patients are elderly and they seem to have been forgotten in our secular society.
