The mission of Our Family Center is to “strengthen families in the Hammond area through education, guidance and compassion.”
Description:
Since 2004 we have strengthened over 400 families, representing over 1000 individuals through our services.
•EDUCATION•more than 50 children are tutored and mentored each school year.
•GUIDANCE•Children, teens and adults are provided free professional counseling.
•COMPASSION•hundreds receive Christmas gifts through our “Gift of Hope” program each year.
History:
We are a locally based 501c3 non-profit, founded in October 2004. After informal surveys of Hammond parents we discovered 2 major concerns:
- Help our children’s education.
- Keep kids off the streets.
With this in mind we began an after-school mentoring and tutoring program. Soon after the start of this program, we discovered the need for low-cost counseling, and added this to our services.
