The mission of the Portage Parks and Recreation Department is to serve the people of the Portage Community through development, operation and maintenance of a quality comprehensive park and recreation system which provides a variety of opportunities for all persons to participate in meaningful, enjoyable and satisfying leisure-time experiences and activities.

Description:
Over four hundred and fifty acres comprise the Portage Parks system, making it one of the largest City park systems in the state. Twelve developed parks, three trails, a sofball complex, historical buildings, a museum, a community complex, multiple banquet and meeting facilities, an outdoor bmx track, skatepark, fishing pond, and lots and lots of play areas can be found throughout the City of Portage!

Recreation and sports programs are available for all ages including volleyball, soccer, and softball. Popular destination locations for extreme sports fun are Imagination Glen Park for a 10 mile Mountain Bike trail and a BMX bicycling track, and Woodland Park for an outdoor skatepark.
Special events take place throughout the year at the various parks, and the Summer Concert Series in the Park is located at the Gazebo at Woodland Park.
Special summer and holiday programs and events are available for children.
The park also has natural plant areas, and an Oak Savanna Restoration Project designed to attract the rare karner blue butterfly back to the area.
