The American Red Cross, is a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.
Description:
The strategic goals of the LaPorte County Chapter clearly define our critical areas of focus (Core Services, Operations, Volunteers, Stewardship). These goals are explicitly tied to our Strategic Direction and establish our priorities as well as how we will measure our success. They will provide the framework for the specific strategic initiatives we will undertake. Our Strategic goals reinforce the overall National American Red Cross strategic goals while remaining relevant to the needs of our local community and being reflective of our chapter's capacity. Strategic Direction #1 is to be our community's partner and a leader in mobilizing people to help prevent, prepare for and respond to disasters and other life-threatening emergencies. Direction #2 is to inspire a new generation of volunteers and supporters by utilizing brand recognition to educate the community on the importance and benefits of the services provided by the Red Cross. Division # 3 is to strengthen our financial base, Infrastructure and support systems to continuously improve our service delivery system.
History:
The LaPorte County Chapter received it's original charter on April 2, 1917. At that time until 1999, it served LaPorte and all of LaPorte County except for Michigan City. The Michigan City Chapter and the LaPorte County Chapter merged in 1999. The chapter house in LaPorte was sold in 2002 and the Michigan City chapter house was sold in 2003. The chapter is now located at an old firehouse that was donated by the City of Michigan City to house all administration offices. Many directors, board members, volunteers and staff have gone through this chapter and each one has made an impact on LaPorte County. We will continue to make services available to all of LaPorte County with several disaster shelter locations, blood drive locations, various class locations and numerous volunteers to lead the way with support and dedication.
