Description:
The YMCA of LaPorte, Indiana is an IRS 501(C)3 organization that was established in 1908. We are the largest human service provider in LaPorte. We have a direct positive effect on well over 15,000 people yearly. The YMCA of LaPorte facilities include a downtown complex and a stand-alone child care center. The downtown complex consists of: a wellness center, aerobics room, teen center, basketball gym, gymnastics center, indoor pool, preschool education center, nursery, and administrative offices. We offer a variety of classes to both children and adults.
History:
In 1908, a group of concerned citizens started a capital campaign to construct a YMCA Building at corner of Maple and Michigan Avenue. The campaign was successful and four years later, the YMCA opened it's doors in LaPorte on May 7, 1911. Since that time, the YMCA has expanded five times and now covers virtually the whole city block. Most recently in 2002, the YMCA Board of Directors and volunteers completed a campaign for another addition to the building. In the history of the YMCA of LaPorte, many programs and services have been offered. From then until this day, one thing has remained constant: our wish to build a strong Spirit, Mind and Body for all.
