Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.
Description:
Girl Scouting provides fun and educational activities for girls ages 5-17 and engaging volunteer opportunities for those over 18. Girl Scout Troops, the traditional structure, is still the most popular form of the Girl Scout experience. However, Drifting Dunes Girl Scout Council offers girls a myriad of ways to develop leadership skills, gain life-long friendships, and become self-reliant, productive, courageous young women. Some of these opportunities include program activities, collaborative workshops, outdoor field trips involving camping and hiking and more. The ScoutReach program serves girls in the urban areas of Lake County. The Juliette Program allows girls to participate in Girl Scouting independently.
History:
On March 12, 1912, Juliette Gordon Low of Savannah Georgia founded a movement inspired by Lord Baden Powell of England's Boy Scouts forming the first Girl Scout troop with 18 girls. Today, 95 years later, there are currently over 3 million members. Through the years, Girl Scouting (and its uniforms) has evolved, but what remains constant is the organization's commitment to helping girls develop values, increase their self potential, gain insight into intercultural relations, and become civic-minded and socially-conscious citizens. Drifting Dunes Girl Scout Council serves over 6000 members from Jasper, Lake, Newton and Porter Counties. For more information, log on to : http://www.ddgsc.org
