Construction volunteers: skilled or unskilled Teens

Content comes here.

Last updated on April 24, 2008

This summer, Christian Community Action will be involved in building new homes in the Valparaiso area for low-income working families. Much of the construction will be on Saturdays, some on other days. Volunteers of all skill-levels will be needed. Professional carpenters, plumbers, electricians, etc., are always needed. Often, our crew leaders are willing to teach volunteers a new construction skill, like drywalling. Even if you just want to paint, sweep up, or be a "runner" for a skilled worker, there's a place for you on our crew! The fellowship is always great; lunch is provided; and you will finish your volunteer day being able to clearly see what you have helped build for a disadvantaged family.

Except for certain projects (like landscaping), volunteers should be age 16 or older. Volunteers under age 18 may not operate power tools. Some days, we will need lots of volunteers, skilled or unskilled; some days, just a handful of professionals, depending upon the task. Training will be provided on-the-job for some tasks. In general, bringing work gloves, a hammer, and a few other basic tools often help. Skilled construction workers should bring necessary tools, if possible.
