We are dedicated to preserving Tacoma's architectural legacy through education and advocacy. Our mission is: to enhance Tacoma's built environment; preserve Tacoma's architectural heritage; educate and inform the community;conserve sustainable resources.

Description:
We have much to celebrate and many opportunities before us. During our first full year of operation, we've made significant progress in accomplishing our goals:

Build relationships and alliances throughout the community. As a new organization, we believe that building partnerships allows us to join with others, with similar goals, to work more effectively for change. We've established firm working relationships with the Tacoma Landmarks Preservation Commission, City Council members, key city and school district staff, the WA Trust for Historic Preservation, the Tacoma Historical Society, the Knights of Pythias Tacoma Lodge, Tacoma's historic churches, and several neighborhood groups.

• Develop and deliver lectures, tours, and workshops to the community.
  
  
• Actively advocate for changes in relevant public policy. We've made the following public policy recommendations to City Council committees and are actively working on these issues
  
  
• Support the rehabilitation and re-use of historic structures, heritage tourism, and preservation of neighborhood character to improve the City's economic health.
  
  
• Create a stable, sustainable organization capable of taking a long-term, proactive approach to historic preservation.
  
  
• Maintain regular communication with members and interested parties.



History:
Historic Tacoma was founded in 2006 under the Greater Tacoma Community Foundation. In 2007, we started the filing process to become an independent 501(c)3 organization. During this short time, our membership has grown from 0 to 100. We have produced several community events including a tour of historic homes and have established a relationships with the city and county through our advocacy work.
