The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.
History:
The American Cancer Society began over 60 years ago to help fund research designed to treat cancer and prevent future cancers. Over the years the mission has expanded to include numerous community-based programs that support cancer patients, including online, telephone and in-person volunteer resources. Our Relays for Life fundraising events have reach thousands of communities & involved them in helping to eradicate cancer.
