The Mission of the Job Carr Cabin Museum is to promote and preserve the early history of Old Town Tacoma, the birthplace of our city, and to articulate the process of establishing and developing a community.

Description:
The Job Carr Cabin Museum is a replica of Job Carr's log cabin, originally built in the winter of 1864-65, in Old Town Tacoma. Job Carr was the first permanent Euro-American to settle in Tacoma, as well as the city's first Mayor, Notary Public and Postmaster. His cabin was Tacoma's first Post Office and polling place. The Museum houses interpretive historical displays and artifacts and provides educational history programs. Tours are provided for school children, educators, history buffs, community residents and visitors to our city.

History:
The Job Carr Cabin Museum was founded in 1997. An Executive Council was formed and a capital campaign raised the $500,00 needed to establish the faithful replica of the original cabin built by Job Carr in 1865. The successful campaign was completed in three years and the museum was built with the integrity and respect appropriate to anchor the historic presence in Old Town Tacoma, to enhance tourism, attract visitors to the historic North End, and serve as an effective educational tool. Authentic period furnishings were acquired for the cabin to represent the living environment of the period and allow for an immersion experience.
