The mission of the Breast Cancer Resource Center is to enhance the quality of life of people touched by breast cancer and to increase awareness and knowledge of breast cancer and breast health.
Description:
The Breast Cancer Resource Center is a non-profit social service organization that provides free services to people touched by breast cancer. The center offers a therapeutic support group, Yoga and Relaxation Techniques Workshops, an Early Detection program which provide free mammograms to low-income, medically uninsured persons, a Therapeutic Arts program, and individual support through the Sisters of Survival program which matches newly diagnosed patients with a breast cancer survivor. The center also maintains a library, a resource closet of wigs, hats, bras and prostheses, and the Quiet Voices program providing information packets for newly diagnosed breast cancer patients through their surgeons.
History:
The Breast Cancer Resource Center was founded in September 1998 by a group of health care professionals and breast cancer survivors who recognized the value of the resource and drop in support center to help meet the needs of the community. Although Breast Cancer Resource Center is an independent non-profit organization, it partners with other community organizations involved with breast cancer.
