The American Red Cross is a volunteer-led humanitarian organization dedicated to helping families and communities safer at home and around the world. The Red Cross provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.
The American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter serves the communities of Pierce, Thurston, Mason and Lewis Counties through the support and generous contributions of individuals, businesses, foundations, and volunteers. The Red Cross is not a government agency and does not receive federal funding for its programs and services.
Description:
In our community, the American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter provides immediate emergency assistance to local victims of disasters such as a house fire every 48 hours. Each year, the American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter trains over 27,000 local residents in lifesaving skills through our health & safety courses. For military families, the American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter transmits thousands of emergency communications regarding a serious illness, death, or other family crisis between service members and their families.
American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter Programs & Services:
Disaster - After a local disaster such as a house fire, flooding, a winter storm, or an earthquake, Red Cross disaster response volunteers help families rebuild their lives by providing for their immediate emergency needs: food, clothing, medication, and shelter always at no cost to the victims. In our community, the Red Cross responds to a local disaster approximately every two days.
Armed Forces Emergency Services - Red Cross volunteer caseworkers provide emergency communications for military families during a crisis. 24 hours / 7 days a week, Red Cross caseworkers transmit vital information between service members and their families so they may request leave to be by the bedside of a seriously ill child, attend the funeral of a loved one, or take care of complicated family issues.
Health & Safety Services - Red Cross volunteer instructors teach people lifesaving skills in first aid & CPR, baby-sitter's training, HIV/AIDS prevention education, and much more. In an emergency every second counts.
Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) - Sponsored by the American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter, RSVP provides meaningful volunteer opportunities for seniors and retirees, who are 55 years and older. RSVP volunteers are using their talents and skills to volunteer in a variety of agencies throughout Pierce County.
Rebuilding Lives and Restoring Hope. One of the best ways to support the programs and services of the American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter and help local disaster victims is by becoming a Red Cross volunteer and/or through a financial donation. The American Red Cross is not a government agency. All Red Cross disaster assistance and emergency services are provided at no cost, thanks to the generosity of people like you who volunteer their time and those who contribute their dollars.
Your contributions to the American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter whether it's time or money helps to ensure that the resources are available to provide for the immediate disaster-related needs of local families when a disaster strikes. It will support emergency communications and messaging services for local military families and service members stationed around the world. It will support lifesaving Red Cross training and emergency preparedness programs in our community.
For local families in our community who rely on the Red Cross to help them through some of the most difficult times in their lives, your generous support and compassionate donation to the Red Cross offers them HOPE - that they will recover, that they can rebuild, that they can move forward, and most important that someone cares - neighbors helping their neighbors.
