Citizens for a Healthy Bay engages citizens to clean up, protect and restore Commencement Bay and its surrounding waters and habitat.
Description:
CHB offers opportunities for people of all ages and ability levels to get involved in real, make-a-difference activities that help to clean up, restore, and protect Commencement Bay as well as the surrounding habitat.
History:
In the past, Commencement Bay was among the most polluted bodies of water in the country. Until the 1970's, laws to protect the environment were not as strong as those today. In 1991, after years of volunteer activities, a group of concerned citizens founded Citizens for a Healthy Bay. Today, a small, experienced staff runs CHB, and an active board of directors oversees the non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.
