AIDS Housing Association of Tacoma provides a circle of care for people living with HIV/AIDS, empowering them to stabilize their health and maintain diverse housing options through support services, life - skills education,and in home professional services.
Description:
To provide services which insure that person ill with AIDS, who are in need of supportive family living, are provided enriched housing that includes the opportunity to stabilize their condition and/or to achieve the medical adherence necessary to prolong their or achieve independence, and when needed, support for end of life issues, in an atmosphere that emphasizes individual dignity, respect for diversity and human connectedness.
History:
AIDS Housing Association of Tacoma was founded in 1989. With the assistance of members of Christ Church Episcopal of Tacoma and other community volunteers, a non-profit corporation was formed to provide safe, alternative housing for people with HIV/AIDS in Pierce and Kitsap Counties. While end-of-life-care is a part of what we do, today over two-thirds of our residents are able to move back into the community after stabilizing their health and achieving medical adherence.

I had a great time volunteering at Three Cedars. In fact, although I am now going to college at night and working full time, I want to make time for 3C as well. I miss the people and the feeling I get when I am able to help out!
I went in a couple nights a week to help with dinner and cleanup, as well as general housework. Sometimes I just hung out with the residents watching television or sitting out on the deck in nice weather. The permanent staff were very helpful and glad to have me around. PCAF provided an orientation that was very beneficial as well. I ended up doing a small amount of fundraising for donated activities for the residents and also participated in other AIDS Awareness activities outside of the house. They were truly inspiring!
