Our mission is to provide inclusive, family-oriented educational programs and therapeutic support services to infants and young children with varying abilities and to help them reach their full potential.
Description:
Tacoma Learning Center emphasizes services to families that encourage responsive relationships between infants and young children and their caregivers. We explore each child's strengths, interests, and special needs through environments that offer a variety of experiences to interest and engage children. TLC also strongly believes that parent involvement is key to developing and enhancing the relationship of each child to his/her world.
History:
Tacoma Learning Center was founded in 1981 by a group of parents who felt a cooperative preschool approach was the most desirable model for their young children. This model regards parents as vital team members participating in their child's services and in their school progress. Because not all parents wanted or were able to participate in classes at the center, the services have evolved to include a diverse staff providing services in the families' homes and community. The services continue to involve parents in every aspect of their children's learning experiences, allowing learning to extend into homes and the larger community.
