Girl Scouts develops girls with courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.

Description:
Girl Scouts Beyond Bars (GSBB) makes a difference... and so can you!

Girl Scouts Beyond Bars (GSBB) is looking for caring, female adults in Pierce County to mentor girls at weekly troop-peer meetings and/or provide transportation from the meeting place to their homes. Troop meetings are held in our new, state-of-the-art Girl Scout center in DuPont on Tuesday evenings from 5:00-7:00.

GSBB is a prevention program for girls with incarcerated mothers that works to help girls cultivate their leadership skills, increase personal growth and improve mother-daughter relationships. Research has shown that when daughters of incarcerated women have the opportunity to increased contact with their mothers and receive appropriate guidance from adults, they resist engaging in at-risk behaviors and future involvement in the criminal justice system.

Through weekly peer-troop meetings, monthly meetings with their mothers, and special field trips in the community, girls receive one-on-one mentoring that provides them with opportunities to bond with caring adults. These meetings and events help girls:
improve their social and personal skills by focusing on healthy relationships, self-esteem, educational and career goals, and leadership development, and
address risk factors through the prevention of bullying, dating violence, and substance abuse.
Help us make a difference in the lives of the girls in your community!

History:
This strengths based, prevention program has been serving girls, ages 5-17, in Pierce and King Counties from 1999-present. The program has expanded from 4 girls to 60 girls. We currently serve girls in Pierce, King, Thurston, Kitsap, and Snohomish Counties. We strive to: enhance mother/daughter relationships, strengthen leadership development, and increase personal growth.
