The Computer Clubhouse is an after-school program which allows youth access to technology and caring mentors.
Description:
The Lakewood Computer Clubhouse, part of the Intel Computer Clubhouse Network, provides a safe, fun, after-school environment where youth are partnered with technology. Clubhouse members are encouraged to explore cutting-edge software, collaborating with other members in an informal learning environment to create projects that stretch their imagination and realize their full potential. Caring mentors work with the members, providing them with collaborative partners, friends, and role-models. Opportunities to explore Clubhouse to college and college to career choices are also part of the learning model
History:
A grant from Intel allowed the Clubhouse to open its doors in May, 2002. Although the Computer Clubhouse represents an outreach of Pierce College into the under-served neighborhood of Lake City, within Lakewood, the Clubhouse is accessible to all youth in Lakewood and Steilacoom.
