[ View Opportunities ]
Last updated on May 6, 2008

The Santa Barbara African Heritage Film Series addresses an unmet need in the community by offering films, discussions with filmmakers, dialog between cultures and exhibits that reflect the heritage of African Americans and Africa’s descendants around the world. The Santa Barbara African Heritage Film Series (SBAHFS) is based on the belief that intolerance and misunderstanding is no match for education, interaction and cultural awareness.

Description:
The Santa Barbara African Film Series screens "films that entertain and inspire". Detail is given in choosing films that are reflect global and national social issues that are relevant in age, content and subject. Films reflect various cultures around the world and those in America. Films are age appropriate and many are thought provoking. Many films maintain an ethnic perspective.

Annual events include: Art Exhibit and Auction, a day for children (with films and activities), Historical Display, Teen Night and a Community Celebration and collaborations with local organizations.

History:
The Santa Barbara African Heritage Film Series began in 2000 with one film at the Cabrillo Pavilion Arts Center.
