We are a non-profit agency that provides vocational services and employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Our mission is to inspire and empower people to enrich their lives. Our vision is to build a community of mutual respect for all individuals. Our guiding principles are that we value the individuality of each person, we advocate community inclusion, and we embrace excellence.
Description: We employ individuals with disabilities at our two facilities. We also do person-centered plans to help these individuals determine what their future vocational goals are. We give training to assist our disabled population in preparing for their desired vocational goal. We develop opportunities to place these people in community jobs and then we provide on-the-job support to help them be successful. These activities do not generate much income, so we manufacture airplane parts, do woodworking, and run a major recycle facility.
History: Our agency has been in existence since 1971 after the State of Washington made a decision to start transferring people with disabilities from State mental institutions to community-based living. In the beginning the capabilities of the disabled were unknown; consequently they were given very simple tasks such as rolling clay beads and cutting out wooden animals. We have grown significantly since that time and now have our people doing a wide variety of work-related tasks. In 1988 the agency established a relationship with Boeing and began assembling airplane parts. In addition we run a major recycling and woodworking center. These activities help provide the income to support our primary purpose of helping individuals with disabilities.
