To provide food to the needy without question or judgment; To always have nutritious food available for the hungry; To refer clients to other agencies and organizations as needed for additional help; and To use care and compassion in all our work, particularly to meet our objectives without embarrassing our clients
Description: We gather food from local businesses, food drives, and donations throughout the week. On Tuesday and Saturday mornings, we distribute food to our clients. We serve an average of 1,000 families each month, with the holiday times being our busiest. Volunteers are the foundation of our organization and we greatly appreciate their dedication to help the community.
Volunteers conduct the daily operations of the food bank. Volunteer drivers pick up food from local grocery stores and delivery it to the food bank. Once there, volunteers sort the produce, bread, and meat products to be stored until the next distribution day. On Tuesday and Saturday mornings, volunteers get food ready for distribution, bag canned food, process clients on the computer (data entry), help clients get food to their cars, and clean-up. We also have a need for volunteers to help sweep and mop the floor on a weekly basis.
Volunteers can develop warehouse, data entry, driving, food handling, and cleaning skills while working at the food bank. We are authorized to verify community service hours through the courts and school programs. Volunteers are required to complete and application and a state patrol check before volunteering.
History: The Marysville Community Food Bank has grown from a small distribution out of the basement of St. Mary's church over 30 years ago to a coalition today of 17 community churches supporting the daily operations. Many community organizations, businesses, and individuals contribute to the food bank.
