The New London Youth Affairs strives to promote community, family and individual well being that will support healthy choices among youth in New London.
Description:
We offer a free Parent Toddler Play Group program during the school year for New London families with children between the ages of 18 months to 3 years. We also offer a free summer Park Play program with entertainment and activities for young children at the Hygienic Arts Park. We have R.A.D. (Recreational Alternatives to Drugs) for kids 8-13 in which we offer recreational and educational programs. For kids 14-18 we have a program called Teens off the Hook which we offer college tours and educational and recreational trips.In the summer we have a summer employment program called Work For It for teens who are 14-18 years old. We also participate in community events such as Boats, Books and Brushes, Family Day and Octoberfest where we provide children's activities. We run a Focus Group on Youth that meets monthly to share information,and have special presentations and trainings.We also run Whale's Tales Book Bank for Kids.The New London Community and Campus Coalition is also another program run by our office.
History:
The New London Youth Affairs started with R.A.D. in 1989 and has grown from there adding many more programs along the way. We serve as New London's Youth Service Bureau. We function through the Recreation Department through the city of New London however our programs are not supported by taxpayers dollars.
