Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit provides people who have disabilities and other barriers to employment with opportunities to become independent, self-supporting citizens through training, work experience and employment in the community.
Description:
Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit has nine sites in the metropolitan area that provide a comprehensive array of programs and services to help individuals become self-reliant despite the barriers they may face. Those who have a history of mental illness or developmental disability, are ex-offenders, are living with HIV/AIDS, are economically disadvantaged, are at-risk youth, have a physical disability or have struggled with substance abuse or homelessness, all can become self-sufficient or more independent in their community. Specific programs target specific populations.
History:
Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit was established more than 80 years ago to deliver employment and training services to the people of our metropolitan community. It has evolved into a highly respected human services agency that empowers people through work. Our current services array includes vocational evaluation, employability skills training, psychosocial rehabilitation, supported employment, occupational skills training, transitional employment, placement coordination and job retention services. A more detailed booklet of program descriptions is available at the Volunteer Services Department.
