Motor Meals’ purpose is to reduce hunger and food insecurity, support “aging in place” and promote health and well-being of those we serve. We do this by delivering nutritiously balanced meals to the homebound in the Ann Arbor area who are unable to shop and cook for themselves. Meals are delivered by volunteers six days per week. Motor Meals is partially funded by the University of Michigan Health System and is part of the UMHS Community Health Services Division. Motor Meals - making a difference one meal at a time.

Description:
Motor Meals of Ann Arbor provides nutritiously balanced meals to the homebound population in Ann Arbor. Our clients are unable to shop and cook for themselves and do not have assistance with these tasks.

Motor Meals provides two nutritiously balanced meals (one hot, one cold) Monday-Saturday and an extra cold meal on Saturday for a Sunday meal. Clients at nutritional risk are eligible to receive the nutritional supplement Boost.

In addition to delivering the meal, volunteers briefly socialize with each client. For some of our clients, the Motor Meals volunteer is the only person they see all day.

Motor Meals has 17 routes, over 400 volunteers, and provides meals to about 200 clients Monday – Friday, and to an average of 150 on Saturday. In FY 2007 we served 356 clients, delivering 124,145 meals.

History:
Motor Meals was established in 1974 celebrated its 30th Anniversary in 2004. Motor meals started with 40 volunteers delivering to 20 clients. Currently, we have more than 400 volunteers delivering to about 200 clients/day Monday through Friday and about 150 clients on Saturday.

Overall Experience    Experience rating
Extremely fulfilling and rewarding.
Everyone at Motor Meals is so genuine. They truly care about the people they serve. It has been such a rewarding experience to be able to make a difference in the lives of others. The simple task of delivering a meal means so much to these people who, in xome cases, may not talk to anyone else the entire day. They are so appreciative. I can't say enough about this program and what a difference it makes in the community.
