Franklin-Wright Settlements (FWS), Inc., is a leading Detroit neighborhood human services organization existing to assist individuals, families, groups and the community with basic life, family and social needs. Embracing the settlement house philosophy-a multi-service, holistic approach in cooperation with the community-FWS focuses on the prevention, treatment and amelioration of social problems through advocacy, programs, projects, activities, services and facilities. The enduring strength of FWS lies in flexible, responsive programs that recognize ongoing basic needs despite changing societal priorities and funding.

Description:
Preserve the family: Franklin-Wrights's values are based on the settlement-house concept of self help for the continuous improvement and preservation of the family.

Help children and other individuals maximize their potential: We aim to afford opportunities to find and develop his or her potential for satisfying life. In doing so, we support the conviction that human beings have a capacity for self-direction and growth.

Know the neighborhood: Building from long-standing, deep roots in the community, FWS strives to know, understand and support the improvement goals of the neighborhoods where we offer services.

Promote equality and cultural identity: FWS crosses all lines of race, religion, national orgin and economic status, seeking to improve relationships among individuals and groups with different backgrounds, while at the same time preserving the uniqueness of each culture.

Set high standards and stay flexible: In reponse to changing community needs, FWS is innovative and flexible, developing methods of high-quality service delivery and coordinate programs, often demonstrating teh value of innovation.

History:
Established in 1881, Franklin-Wright Settlements, Inc., with roots as an east-side Detroit settlement house, FWS consentrates resources on people and neighborhoods in an area bounded by I-75 on the west, I-94 on the north, Alter Road on the east and the Detroit River on the south, while also responding to human service needs in the metropolitan area.
