The Alzheimer's Association assists in meeting the needs of the family and individual, who has Alzheimer's disease or a related disorder. We accomplish this through our vast array of services and programs that are volunteer based.

Description:
The Greater Michigan Chapter is one of five chapters in Michigan. As of July 1, 2002 we have merged with existing chapters in Flint, Midland, Alpena and Marquette/Alger. The Detroit Area site will be the Central Office for the Greater Michigan Chapter with the other four sites serving as Regional Offices. We merged to bring you more comprehensive programs and services than ever before. In fact, we hope to bring more assistance to individual communities as our capacity expands.

History:
The Chapter had it's humble beginings in the kitchen of a caregiver's home during the early 80's. There was no support for those families who were devastated with this dreaded disease. That was the begining; the Alzheimer's Association also became national and the rest is history. We have more programs and services then most chapters including In-Home Respite, Adult Daycares, Caregiver & Patient Support groups, Safe Return Wandering program, Counseling/Care management, Education/Training, Telephone Helpline, Communty Resources/Avocacy, & Research/Autopsy Assistance.
All our programs and services are volunteer based.
We need dedicated and committed individuals, who are looking for an opportunity to give back to the community. We can not function without you. Volunteers are critical to the success of our services. They are the backbone of our association.
