Travelers Aid Society of Metropolitan Detroit is a case management organization providing permanent housing and supportive services to socially-economically challenged individuals and/or disconnected families and travelers by returning them to point of origin, advancing the well-being of the community and empowering them to become self-sufficient contributing members of society.
Description:
Travelers Aid is not a travel agency, we are a full-service, non-profit human services agency. Case Management Staff of Travelers Aid Society provides counseling to 2,500 homeless and those at risk of homelessness each year, helping individuals and families access shelter, food, clothing and housing.
We provide services for more than 55,000 travelers each year at Metro Airport alone. In addition, we help 250 runaways return home every year, and introduce 150 babies from foreign lands to their newly adoptive families each year.
Through our unique comprehensive, collaborative case management programs, the first in the State of Michigan, we follow up with the services based on the needs of each client. While working with families, as well as individuals, the programs integrate the resources of agencies networked together for the long term.
At our offices Downtown, we assist 2,500 homeless and at-risk families and individuals each year. We do not bandage the crisis without treating the very reasons that caused the crisis. We work with our clients to find the correct solution.
History:
The League of Catholic Women created Travelers Aid Society in 1923 as an offshoot of the YMCA. Because of the drastic changes in our society, the needs of the people we serve are much more serious than they were 80 years ago. With this in mind, our programs and services expand on a annual basis to better serve our community.
