For many of our clients, a volunteer is the only person they see all day.

Volunteers choose the day (Monday – Saturday) and frequency (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, other) for delivering meals. Some volunteers chose to only work as a substitute.

Monday - Friday meals are picked up around 11:15-11:30am. Routes take 1-2 hours to complete. January – August, Saturday and holiday meals are picked up at 10:30 a.m. September – December, Saturday and holiday meals are picked up at 9:30 a.m.

In addition to delivering meals, volunteers briefly socialize with clients. Volunteers are the main stay of this program. Motor Meals would not exist without volunteers like you! Motor Meals is unable to reimburse volunteers for mileage or other driving-related expenses. Volunteers do get paid in cookies, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and the rewards in helping the Ann Arbor homebound population.

A Motor Meals volunteers may be the only person a client sees all day. The nutritiously balanced food volunteers deliver is the primary food source for many Motor Meals clients.

Volunteers are asked to commit to at least 6 deliveries. Volunteers can deliver on their own or choose their own partner/buddy. Volunteers under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

A completed Volunteer Application must be on file with Motor Meals before starting to volunteer.

Volunteers will need their own car to deliver the meals.

Staff from the Motor Meals office will review all the duties the morning of your first volunteer experience. In addition, you will be paired with an experienced volunteer to deliver a route to gain hands-on experience in delivering the meals.

Overall Experience    Experience rating
Extremely fulfilling and rewarding.
Everyone at Motor Meals is so genuine. They truly care about the people they serve. It has been such a rewarding experience to be able to make a difference in the lives of others. The simple task of delivering a meal means so much to these people who, in xome cases, may not talk to anyone else the entire day. They are so appreciative. I can't say enough about this program and what a difference it makes in the community.
